Our Policy

The creation of music has been made easier and easier for artists of all levels by technology available today. But there is still a significant difference between a professionally produced and mixed sound recording, and one generated at home on a laptop. The years of experience, training and expertise that is required to do this can not be easily replaced, nor is it usually affordable to independent artists.

It’s our aim to provide world-class music recording and production services to as many artists as we can.

To make the process affordable for the independent artist and still financially viable for us, we offer a small upfront rate, but remain licensor of any sound recordings we create. We then grant full license to the artist to exploit the tracks in any or all ways they wish. We also may require a small percentage of revenue from sales.

APRA: (Australasian Performing Right Association)

We can assist in registering new songs with APRA. This protects artist rights of ownership, and collect royalties on their behalf.

If the song lyrics and melody are a collaboration between you and others (including Paxus), a percentage split needs to be agreed before you register. Paxus will only require a percentage if we have contributed to the lyrics, melody and chords. If we have only contributed music accompaniment to a pre-existing song for example, and or provided recording and mixing services, 100% should be credited to you and any other collaborators.

PPCA: (Phonographic Performance Company of Australia)

PPCA collect royalties from the public broadcasting of the recordings (radio and live venues etc). As the producer/creator of the sound recording, Paxus remains the licensor of any masters we make, and will manage (mostly via PPCA) the ongoing licensing of the track.

If/when you upload the master tracks to the streaming sites via DistroKid, TuneCore etc, you must let us know the following details so we can register them with PPCA:

  • Title of song (Exactly as presented when uploaded)

  • Date of Release

  • Your name (Exactly as presented when uploaded)

  • ISRC Number (Provided automatically when track is uploaded to DistroKid or similar)

If you are the featured artist in the works, you would also be entitled to 50% of any royalties collected by PPCA (This is over and above the royalties sent to you via APRA and revenue from sales). Just sign up as an artist with PPCA and you can access that.

Distribution (Distrokid or similar)

Unless we have agreed on a ‘buyout’ deal upfront for the recordings, we usually propose a percentage split of revenue of the tracks. This enables us to offer affordable upfront rates for our production services. This would be established with you at the beginning of the work. Applying the split is easily done within most of the distribution services like Distrokid. You just need to follow the instructions in the "Splits" menus, and use the email address paxusproductions@gmail.com to allocate the agreed percentage.

Credit

And lastly, if you plan to promote the song through social media, we ask to be credited as producer…. Something like ‘Music produced by Craig Bryant @ Paxus Productions. Also if you tag Paxus Productions, we can help by sending it through our channels too.
